A total solar eclipse will occur Monday, Aug. 21, across the U.S. in many communities where BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) operates. BNSF will continue normal operations throughout the day and during the eclipse, and reminds community members to stay safe and away from railroad tracks.

Because nothing is more important to BNSF than operating safely, employees throughout the BNSF network have been proactively contacting communities along the eclipse’s path about the safety risks on and near railroad tracks, and asking people to only cross at designated grade crossings.

“So everyone can safely enjoy the view, we are reminding community members that railroad tracks are private property and for their safety, the public should never gather anywhere on or near railroad tracks or right of way,” said Zak Andersen, BNSF vice president of corporate relations.

To help ensure everyone’s safety, community members should call 800.832.5452 if they see anyone on or near tracks.
