What began in 2020 as a small BMX youth team supported by local parents and a bike shop in Kent, Washington, has grown into Cycle Therapy Racing—a nonprofit co-founded by BNSF Switchman Brent Azus.
“Six months after the nonprofit label was approved, we started resonating with folks who use cycling for therapy and mental health,” explained Azus. “After becoming a nonprofit to earn race funds for youth interested in BMX racing, we decided to expand Cycle Therapy’s goal and go further into the community by offering an outlet for people struggling with mental health.”
Cycle Therapy also promotes inclusivity on and off the track. The nonprofit provides stickers with the universal hearing impairment symbol to BMX riders who are deaf or hard of hearing. These are now distributed to hundreds of tracks nationwide.
BNSF is proud to support Cycle Therapy’s six-week summer bike camp!
