December 2023

  • Final planning and initial site preparation for repair work, estimated to occur later in 2024 during work windows set to minimize impacts to marine life, biodiversity and commerce.

September 2022

  • Project is awarded $25 million from the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program. BNSF Railway to provide an additional $70 million in funding needed to complete the project
  • Repairs to take place during work windows identified to minimize the impacts to marine life and protect biodiversity

May 2022

  • Counterweight replacement plans complete
  • Temporary access and construction plans developed, general contractor selection underway

December 2021

  • Project nearing final design
  • Permit applications to appropriate agencies submitted
  • Construction to begin after permitting approved
  • Construction to last up to three years
  • Construction activities that could temporarily disrupt vessel traffic will be directed by the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to be communicated to the maritime community early and often
  • BNSF to provide timely and consistent updates and outreach to affected stakeholders and neighboring communities

October 2020

  • BNSF crews repair steel tower supports on the south side of the bridge
  • Work occurs over four weeks, most occurring between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

September 2020

  • Preliminary design phase, permitting pre-application phase
