The Port of Pasco will receive $3.6 million in federal funding for a last-mile rail project that will connect the port-owned Reimann Industrial Center, a 150-acre industrial hub, to BNSF’s Pasco rail yard. The funding is in the fiscal year 2023 omnibus appropriations bill that Congress approved in December. The project will create 200 jobs at the new Darigold milk processing facility and about 500 jobs throughout the region. The project calls for the construction of 6,100 feet of rail between the industrial center and the BNSF rail yard. The rail line will serve the Darigold facility, slated to open in 2024, and other businesses expected to move into the industrial center. The center is BNSF’s first Certified Site in the state of Washington. Certification can mean reduced development time and increased speed to market.
