For BNSF, the safety of the communities we serve across our 32,500-mile route network, as well as our 37,000 employees, remains the highest priority. This commitment is reflected in our performance in 2023, a record year for workplace safety in the company’s 175-year history.
We achieved this safety milestone through a groundbreaking Transportation Safety Agreement, which strengthened collaboration and communication between management and employees. Additionally, we have invested extensively in personnel and safety technology, regular inspections, and more than 4,000 trackside detectors that collect and disseminate data to help us optimize the safety and reliability of our network and equipment. These systems enable BNSF to identify issues before accidents arise and stop trains until safety concerns are resolved.
“This monumental achievement is a credit to the commitment and passion for safety demonstrated by everyone at BNSF,” said Katie Farmer, president and CEO. “We thank all our employees on the front lines serving customers every day whose dedication to safety made this significant milestone possible.”
